GENERATOR EXPERIENCES: WHY I TOOK THE WRONG JOB
Many Generators spend years making decisions with their heads.
I did that for a long time, too.
Today I know that my Human Design would actually have shown me a different path.
A path that would have spared me a lot of frustration, wasted energy, and doubt.
THE SITUATION
A few years ago, I was offered a new job.
On paper, everything was perfect:
- higher salary
- more responsibility
- larger company
- better career opportunities
My friends thought the position was great.
My family was thrilled.
And even my resume would benefit from it.
There really wasn’t a single good reason to turn it down.
THE DECISION
Still, I sensed something strange.
Whenever I thought about the new job, I didn’t really feel excited.
I wasn’t full of energy.
I couldn’t look forward to it.
But I ignored that feeling.
After all, objectively speaking, the offer was simply too good to pass up.
So I accepted.
THE FIRST FEW MONTHS
After just a few weeks, I noticed that something wasn’t right.
The work wasn’t bad.
My coworkers were friendly.
The pay was good.
And yet, every morning I felt weighed down.
I had to force myself to get motivated.
I began to have doubts.
On the weekends, it took me an unusually long time to recover.
It was as if my energy were slowly running dry.
THE HUMAN DESIGN REALIZATION
It wasn’t until years later that I learned about Human Design.
And suddenly, a lot of things made sense.
As a Generator, my strategy isn’t to initiate things or make decisions with my head.
Generators are designed to respond to life.
Their most important compass is their sacral reaction.
That famous gut feeling.
A clear:
“Yes, this feels right.”
or
“No, I don’t really want that.”
WHAT MY GUT TOLD ME BACK THEN
When I look back honestly today, I already knew the answer.
My gut was never enthusiastic.
It was never full of anticipation.
It had never really said yes.
But my mind had provided all the arguments for why I should take the job.
So I listened to my head instead of my energy.
WHAT I DO DIFFERENTLY TODAY
Today, I make decisions differently.
When a new opportunity arises, I don’t ask myself first:
“Does this make sense?”
But rather:
“Do I feel a genuine ‘yes’?”
When my body reacts with enthusiasm, energy flows.
When no energy flows, I take a closer look.
That doesn’t mean every decision becomes easy.
But it feels much more right.
MY CONCLUSION AS A GENERATOR
The biggest insight from my Human Design was:
Not every good opportunity is the right opportunity.
Generators aren’t here to chase after every chance that comes their way.
They’re here to respond to what sparks genuine vitality within them.
Today, I trust this inner compass much more.
And surprisingly, this helps me make better decisions than I used to.
